Women in Web Development: Celebrating Women in Tech

It’s Women’s Month! March is a wonderful time to celebrate the accomplishments of women all over the world, and how women have contributed to the growth of every part of society. This includes all areas, from politics to civil rights to business…and everything in between!

From modern heroes like Michelle Obama, Tulsi Gabbard, Melinda Gates, and Oprah Winfrey to historical figures like Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, and Gertrude Stein, there are plenty of women throughout history to look up to and admire for their great accomplishments.

Famous Women in the Field of STEM

Recently, the inclusion of women in STEM has been a hot topic. A group of fields traditionally dominated by men, STEM is becoming more open and available to women. Women entering these fields have been able to contribute a lot in recent times and continue to every day!

One specific STEM field in which women have been growing and thriving in recent times is tech. These include women like Elizabeth Churchill (Senior Director of User Experience at Google), Kate Crawford (co-founder of New York University’s AI Now Institute), Fei-Fei Li (Co-Director of Stanford's Human-Centered AI Institute), Gwynne Shotwell (President and COO of SpaceX), and Grace Hopper.

Grace Hopper, a highly respected computer engineer, made significant contributions to the field of tech. She was one of the first programmers to work on the Harvard Mark I, and her work was so influential that it helped with the development of COBOL (a programming language that programmers still use today). Additionally, she recorded the first ever computer bug—which was a groundbreaking moment in the history of computing.
